As construction and remodeling work on the National Geographic Explorer continues at full force in Las Palmas, our Fleet Management team is equally consumed with start-up efforts on numerous fronts, including recruiting and hiring shipboard personnel.
Dozens of crewmembers are currently being interviewed and hired to join our exceptional National Geographic Explorer leaders, including Captain Leif Skog and Hotel Manager Patrik Svardmyr, to build a fine team for the new ship. While similar efforts are taking place with our partners in the Philippines, in Seattle we are interviewing cooks, pastry chefs, bakers, bartenders, technology coordinators, and gallery managers.
Meanwhile, the new ship has captured the interest of many crewmembers throughout our fleet, and several individuals will be transferring to the National Geographic Explorer, bringing years of invaluable experience providing exceptional service to our guests.
After offers are made and accepted, the next wave of activity begins: training and travel arranged, uniforms issued, contracts finalized, and visa applications completed and submitted. And once the ship is ready to leave the Canary Islands, the team of people that will bring the National Geographic Explorer to life will be assembled for the positioning trip to Reykjavik, Iceland, and ready to welcome our guests for her inaugural voyage.
