The Making of the National Geographic Explorer

Explorer Week 28

Stabilizers Ready

< PREVIOUS                                                                                NEXT >

Cabins and public areas continue to come together and now the galley is really beginning to take shape. The galley and all food storage and food prep areas have been designed to United States Public Health (USPH) standards, so in a couple of weeks inspectors from the CDC Vessel Sanitation Program will go to the vessel to inspect the equipment and the installation.

During the past week the new stabilizers arrived by container ship – they were built in Scotland by Rolls Royce. Within the next few days installation will begin, so that future travelers on National Geographic Explorer will get the smoothest ride possible, whether it be across the Drake Passage to Antarctica, or the North Atlantic to Greenland.
