Kythnos Island
After spending the past few days exploring the beautiful villages of Greece’s Cycladic Islands, we focused more on their natural beauty today. We spent the day enjoying fun and games; “Olympic” games that is, while anchored in an incredible bay on the west side of Kythnos Island. This virtually uninhabited island was the perfect backdrop for the peak of our “Panoramic Games”. First thing this morning, guests of all ages were invited to learn about ancient pottery designs from one of our incredible Greek guides, Ellie. After the talk, the kids joined their teammates and created their own pottery painting. When the masterpieces where completed, our young artists joined the rest of the guests for a swim and some daredevil diving. We held a jumping competition, where participants were able to show off their biggest splashes, smoothest entries and most creative creations, diving off the side of the ship. Although the “Kung fu Chinese Chicken” jump did not win first prize, it was, by far, one of the most creative jumps I have ever seen.
We all worked up some pretty good appetites from all the swimming, so we came in for lunch and a little siesta, before heading out to the beach for even more competitions, including snorkeling and kayaking. The young guests were welcomed to the island by discovering an archeological site prepared for each team and the start of our land competitions. Each team needed to uncover the hidden artifact in their plot and rebuild it. They found that the pots they had created earlier were broken and buried, and they needed to work as a team to put them back together. The teamwork was amazing and every team was able to restore their pots to their original form. There were kayak races, javelin throwing, discus and the final event of the day, a swimming race.
The day was filled with many laughs and many triumphs, coupled with a combination of perfect weather and gorgeous scenery.
