The Making of the National Geographic Explorer

The Chart Room

< PREVIOUS                                           NEXT >

There’s one part of the National Geographic Explorer that, even in this construction phase, is a place people gravitate toward naturally. This place is the forward-looking indoor observation area just below the bridge that we will name “The Chart Room.”

With direct access to the bow, the Chart Room will be the ideal place to duck in for a hot beverage after a morning on deck in the bracing air of the Arctic or Antarctic, as the ship picks its way through the ice. As the name suggests, we will have charts for guests to pore over, reference books relevant to the passages we’re navigating, and an informal atmosphere to inspire conversation.

We already like this space so much that we’re even thinking it could occasionally be used for special dinners for small groups. We’re sure that the Chart Room will quickly become a favorite hangout for many National Geographic Explorer travelers.
