The Making of the National Geographic Explorer

Explorer Week 31

Update on Wellness

< PREVIOUS                                                                      NEXT >

In one of the earlier updates from March (Week 19), the features of the wellness center were described: the facility, the equipment, and the services. At that point the new wellness center was mostly pre-fabricated aluminum plate waiting to be welded into place.

Today, the structure is complete and the large windows that provide a stunning 180 degree view are in place. Perched above the sun deck looking aft, one will have sweeping views of the seas behind while jogging on the treadmill or pedaling the recumbent bike. The same structure houses the two massage therapy rooms and the sauna.

There’s a refreshing new energy in the air as this week more crew arrived to the National Geographic Explorer to prepare the ship for its start-up. Some are veterans moving over from the National Geographic Endeavour, while some are new to Lindblad Expeditions. All have fallen immediately into the myriad of tasks large and small that remain to get the ship ready.
