The Making of the National Geographic Explorer

Explorer Week 9

Joining the LEX Fleet

< PREVIOUS                                           NEXT >

The Christmas holiday week has been a quiet week on the National Geographic Explorer. Since we’ve been forced to slow down to match the pace of the holiday season in Gothenburg, it’s a good time to close the eyes and envision for a moment what this vessel will be less than six months from now, and how it will fit in with the rest of the Lindblad Expeditions fleet.

We’re certain that veteran travelers of National Geographic Endeavour or any of the rest of our current fleet of small ships will immediately feel at home when they step aboard our newest addition. All of our usual “Tools for Exploration” will be aboard to expand our reach and deepen our view of the world: Zodiacs, kayaks, an ROV (remotely operated vehicle), an Undersea Specialist and of course our hallmark staff of Naturalists.

So that our guests will feel constantly connected to the worlds we’ll explore, the ship is being designed to provide good viewing from many different areas – no matter where you are you will never be more than a few steps from reaching an outside deck. And most importantly, there will be the hospitality and sense of spontaneity that many guests value most of all, including access to the open bridge, and a galley staff that is always ready to delay a meal at a moment’s notice so that no one has to make the difficult choice between that polar bear or whale sighting and the delicious dinner that waits below.
