Marine Conservation
Conserving and Exploring our Oceans
Photo Caption: Dr. Enric Sala, National Geographic Emerging Explorer, leads an expedition to Kingman Reef in search of pristine coral reefs. Check out an excerpt from his August 2007 blog.

Owning and operating small ships around the world is both a privilege and a responsibility. It’s a privilege because it allows us to explore the remote coves, islands shorelines and places that are impossible to access by land. But whether we are exploring vast open seas or pristine coves, we experience, first hand, the need for these marine eco-systems to be protected—from increasing development to unregulated fishing, pollution and ocean degradation.

For decades, Lindblad Expeditions has been committed to ensuring that the marine environments in which we explore are protected and in some cases, restored to healthy marine ecosystems. We have worked with local organizations in places such as the Galapagos islands, Baja California, Alaska and Antarctica to protect and restore these unique systems so that future generations can enjoy them as we have. The Mediterranean may lose its wild bluefin tuna. High-tech harvesting and wasteful management have brought world fish stocks to dangerous lows. This story explores the fish crisis—as well as the hope for a new relationship between man and the sea. Read More
OUR CONSERVATION PARTNERS
Blue Ocean Institute

Working with Blue Ocean Institute (BOI) helps us ensure that seafood offerings are carefully selected for flavor and best fishing practices. We choose not to purchase or serve species that are considered overfished or caught by practices that have serious environmental impact.

Marine Stewardship Council
The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) has developed a certification standard for sustainable marine fisheries. Lindblad Expeditions was the first U.S. signatory to support the MSC. Lindblad purchases from MSC certified suppliers whenever possible.

Chef's Collaborative
With over 1,000 members in the food community, this national network works to promote sustainable cuisine. Our support of the Collaborative reinforces our use of local and seasonal ingredients on board our ships as well as engaging with local farmers, fishermen and other suppliers who use sustainable practices in an effort to protect the environment.
