Every so often comes the chance to undertake a voyage so breathtaking in scope, taking in such a vast variety of experiences, that it truly deserves the term “epic voyage.” Our journey beginning in the Red Sea and ending in Lisbon, Portugal is just that kind of experience.
You’ll follow the arc of ancient history, from the Pyramids to the dawn of the Age of Discovery. Along the way, you’ll visit seven countries — Egypt, Greece, Italy, Malta, Tunisia, Spain and Portugal — plus the territory of Gibraltar. You’ll explore some of the greatest sites of antiquity, learn about the natural world, and have plenty of time to enjoy the contemporary towns and villages you encounter along the way.
We've arranged an additional night in Cairo with our compliments, complete with very special visits to sites not open to the general public and a meeting with Egypt's best-known Archaeologist, Dr. Zahi Hawass. This will be a wonderful opportunity to see some of the things that draw visitors to Egypt, or if you've been to Egypt before, to revisit some of the greatest places of antiquity.
An outstanding expedition staff, with a multitude of areas of expertise, will accompany you throughout — making sure you get the most out of your experience. Extraordinary Special Guests include:
Legendary Journalist ROBERT MACNEIL, formerly of The MacNeil-Lehrer News Hour, who will contribute his world view.
U.S. Ambassador MARILYN MCAFEE, who has just returned from a government-sponsored trip to Jordan and Iraq and shares her first-hand insights on foreign policy.
National Geographic Archaeologist BOB HOHLFELDER, who shares research from 40 Mediterranean digs. National Geographic Photojournalist MASSIMO BASSANO, who offers a rare, behind-the-scenes perspective.
