The Making of the National Geographic Explorer

Farewell Las Palmas

< PREVIOUS                                                                     NEXT >

Shortly after the crew boarded their new home for the first time after months of construction everyone was anxious to get underway Tuesday for our first sea trial.  While a few people here and there weren’t prepared for the sea, the National Geographic Explorer certainly was.

For those of us able to sail onboard, even if only for a few hours, it was a pleasure to be on ship plying the waters of the Atlantic.  The sea trial enabled us to commission and test various equipment such as the Stabilizers and Rescue Boat.

As we prepare to depart tomorrow, a massive unveiling is underway as protective cardboard and plastic are removed from the ship. Our first dry stores for the positioning were taken aboard and we are excited to leave this place with a first class expedition vessel carrying us north. Final touches will continue in a few spaces including the Mud Room, Observation Lounge and Library while we are underway.
