MARGRIT ULRICH

Naturalist

Born and raised in San Jose, Costa Rica to Swiss parents, Margrit is a living blend of the precision of the Swiss people and the pura vida philosophy of Costa Ricans. Since she was a little girl, Margrit has shown a passion for nature and all its creepy-crawly creatures.

After finishing high school she had the opportunity to Participate in a social work exchange year in Germany.  There she worked with people with different disabilities, and they offered her a very important lesson in life: "People will forget what you did, what you said, what you showed them, but they will never forget how you made them feel."  As she returned to her beloved Costa Rica, she finally knew what she wanted to do with her life: work with people and nature.

She has been a naturalist guide for the last eight years traveling with Lindblad Expeditions–National Geographic throughout Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua and El Salvador.  She is a currently a student of tropical biology and natural resource management.  Her passion spans from birding to plant identification, from amphibian to reptile observation, with a special love for bats, rocks and shells.  Her enthusiasm, humor and knowledge will help her translate the language of Mother Nature for all of you.
