Egyptians still farm along the Nile in the traditional way, and you’ll have glimpses into the world of how they live. Virtually everyone who has ever visited Egypt has been struck by the friendliness and hospitality of its people.
Cairo is a center of history, learning and culture and his been so for millennia. Cairenes are both interesting and friendly. Cairo's many historic sites are endlessly interesting to explore.
During your time aboard ship, the entire expedition community gathers in the lounge during the cocktail hour for an expedition ritual we call Recap. As you enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, your Egyptologist may give a talk, and you will be provided with an outline of the following day’s schedule. You may find, as have many others, that Recap remains one of the fondest memories of your expedition experience.
Oberoi Philae, carrying just 44 guests, is an exceptionally fine ship. Each airy cabin is large, with picture views, and wide-open gathering spaces abound aboard ship. History talks and Recaps are a key part of the journey, along with our Expedition Photography program. And when the ship is underway, it’s a wonderful time to enjoy the pace of life along the river, relax with a treatment in the spa, or visit the bridge to see the calm ritual of navigation unfold.
