Panama City Post Voyage Extension

New Lock Expansion + BioMuseo

Extend your stay in Panama City and explore two new sites. Venture to the Agua Clara Visitor Center at the Panama Canal’s new, larger Pacific lock to see the intricacies of its workings up close. Plus, visit the Frank Gehry-designed BioMuseo (Museum of Biodiversity), the architect's only work in Latin America, and through eight galleries discover how this land bridge dividing oceans has changed over three million years.

Day 1

Disembark National Geographic Quest/ Colon/ Panama City

After breakfast, disembark National Geographic Quest and drive to the Agua Clara Visitor Center. There we'll experience history in the making with a firsthand look at the new, operational Agua Clara Locks. The new lock is 70 feet wider than the original locks allowing New-Panamax-sized vessels to transit. In the afternoon, head for a tour of the Frank Gehry-designed BioMuseo. This is Gehry’s first and only design in Central America and features over 30,000 feet of gallery space with 8 exhibits dedicated to the history of the isthmus and its myriad species (many of which we will search for once our main expedition embarks). In the late afternoon, check-in to the Marriott-Panama Hotel and prepare for our evening introduction to the city. This evening by special arrangement, we tour the Miraflores Locks and dine in the restaurant overlooking the operations, Atlantic & Pacific Co. restaurant. (B,L,D)
