Actively explore storied European cities and walk in the footsteps of the Allied troops.
National Geographic Explorer will be your base as you’re immersed in the culture and history of the North Sea, from Copenhagen to London. The ship will feel like home in no time as you discover all its nooks and crannies, the community camaraderie kindles, and you make exhilarating discoveries together.
This voyage encompasses sites best explored on foot or by small boat. Stroll through a bustling market in Brussels; the centuries-old diamond district in Antwerp; the stunning, 12th-century city of Lübeck, known for its architecture; and the world-famous Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam to admire the work of Dutch masters. Cruise the storybook canals of Bruges; through Nyhaven, Copenhagen’s 17th-century waterfront neighborhood; and down the fabled canals of Amsterdam on boat tours.
Back aboard ship, sail past England’s towering Cliffs of Dover, which served as a beacon to pilots returning home from war on the continent; under London’s Tower Bridge on the Thames; and along the Kiel Canal, a 61-mile waterway connecting the North Sea with the Baltic.
To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII, visit sites that played a crucial role in modern history: Omaha Beach, to walk in the footsteps of Allied soldiers; the American Cemetery, to pay your respects; Pegasus Bridge, which the British 6th Airborne Division captured in record time; and more. Guest Speaker Mark Bielski, military historian, author, and podcast host, will lend his expertise throughout the voyage. Plus, capture all you’ll see with help from Pulitzer Prize-winning National Geographic photographer Jay Dickman, who will be on board to inspire guests and pass along pro tips.
There’s no one-size-fits-all scheduling here. You choose which activities to take part in—both on and off the ship.
Each evening at cocktail hour, the entire expedition community gathers in the lounge for a ritual we call Recap. As you enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, various onboard experts give talks and your expedition leader will outline the following day’s schedule. Guests often tell us in comment cards that Recap remains one of the fondest memories of their voyage.
National Geographic Explorer boasts plenty to keep you busy on board. Her public rooms include a dramatic, window-lined library and observation lounge perched at the very top of the ship. There are plentiful observation decks, a forward-facing chart room, and a 24-hour beverage station. Relax or read in the spacious lounge, work up a sweat in the state-of-the-art fitness center, or book yourself a spa treatment from our talented wellness specialist. And when Explorer is underway, linger on the bow for a unique view of the surrounding landscape, visit the bridge for an up-close look at the ship’s command center, or head to the upper deck at night for a bit of stargazing.
