Alaska & Families
Shipboard life—perfect for a shared adventure
Travel + Leisure named us the #1 Family Friendly Small-ship Cruise Line for four consecutive years. We offer families more than simply the chance to share the learning experience Alaska affords—the opportunity to play together. Alaska’s wild places bring out the kid in everyone, which gives parents and children the rare opportunity to genuinely “be” together in a totally natural way—sharing shipboard life, sharing activities, sharing the knowledge, and creating a collective family memory.
Daily activities to share
You’ll never forget the day you woke to watch humpback whales feeding near our ship. Expedition landing craft cruises past crashing glaciers, hiking among towering trees, and sitting together as the community collectively recounts the day and learns about tomorrow at Recap. These are the things you’ll do and remember together. Aboard the ship, kids can never get too far away, but they’re also able to exercise their own independence. Often “kids’ tables” spontaneously form, giving kids the chance to create their own societies. In other cases, families allow kids to freely join different activities groups by day, but mandate dinner together every night.
Special kids-only activities
Photo workshops with a Lindblad-National Geographic certified photo instructor using smartphones or point-and-shoots. Hands-on science using the video microscope and learning about conservation projects, plus hands-on nature lessons with our naturalists who are trained to work with kids and are excellent role models. The National Park Service representative on board from Glacier Bay National Park gives kids a journal for them to write and draw in as they’re inspired throughout the voyage. Scavenger hunts. Plus, expedition landing craft driving lessons and “certificates of achievement.” Kid-friendly menus and movie night with pizza are always a hit, too. Our kids program is learning disguised as fun. You’ll see kids discover hidden talents and gain confidence while having the time of their lives.
