  • Christine West

    Undersea Specialist
Christine was fortunate to grow up in the Pacific Northwest on the shores of the Puget Sound. After graduating from the University of Washington, she decided to pursue her love of the ocean and exploration. Her passion for marine biology has inspired her through over 4,000 scuba dives around the globe in temperate and cold-water conditions, as well as snorkeling and freediving in extraordinary habitats such as in river beds with spawning salmon, in recently de-glaciated bays and lagoons filled with ice and glacial silt and in deep blue water with large marine animals including humpback whales, hammerhead sharks and pilot whales.

  • John Mitchell

    Naturalist
Raised in the mountains of Crested Butte, Colorado, John has always been a “child of nature,” where the natural world around him was life’s classroom.  After graduating from Colorado State University with degrees in Speech Communication and Biology, John joined Lindblad Expeditions.  Over the years with Lindblad he tried to learn every aspect of vessel operations while spending his “free time” learning all that he could from the naturalists on board.  His time off the boats was spent traveling throughout North, South, and Central America learning more about the areas.  John left “for a spell” to pursue a post-graduate degree in marine ecology in Hawaii, fell in love with island life and now calls Maui home.

  • Stella Bohnert

    Assistant Expedition Leader
Stella has called many exotic locations—from New York City to Zihuatanejo, Mexico, to Okoboji, Iowa—home. A childhood in Seattle instilled in her a great love of drizzle, while three years living in Mexico after high school honed her Spanish skills. She spent several years flying with the U.S. military around the world and back again as a flight attendant for a small charter airline. Living and working on board expedition vessels was a natural choice for Stella’s migratory instinct, and wrangling expedition logistics fits her profound love for color-coding and VHF radio.

  • Tua Pittman

    Cultural Specialist
Internationally acclaimed as a traditional master navigator, Tua has navigated canoes across the great oceans of our planet from the coastlines of Asia through to the shores of the Americas for more than 30 years, without the use of modern instruments. This Cook Islander, also of New Zealand Maori and Tahitian bloodlines, uses an ancient navigational system based upon careful observation of celestial bodies—sun, moon, and stars—as well as using ocean swells, flight patterns of birds, and other natural markers.
