  • DAY 1: San Francisco/Embark

Set sail and enjoy a sunset harbor cruise, drinks on the bow, and a welcome dinner before National Geographic Venture anchors for the evening amid the iconic San Francisco skyline. (D)

  • DAY 2: Angel Island, Sausalito and the Golden Gate Bridge

Meet your wellness specialist on the sundeck this morning for stretching before breakfast. After breakfast, we’ll go ashore at California Historic Landmark, Angel Island, with expansive 360º views of the San Francisco skyline, the Marin County headlands, and Mount Tamalpais.

Join our staff on a multitude of hikes, from strenuous to leisurely. Take advantage of free time in the afternoon to explore the quaint town of Sausalito and be our guest at the boutique wine tasting venues we’ve arranged. Tonight, set sail under the Golden Gate Bridge for a sunset to remember. (B,L,D)

  • DAY 3: Monterey and Point Lobos

Our day begins with a behind-the-scenes tour of the acclaimed Monterey Bay Aquarium followed by informative history walks to Cannery Row, immortalized by John Steinbeck’s novel of the same name. We’ll also explore Point Lobos State Marine Park, home to sea lion rookeries, epic kelp fields and extensive marine wildlife. Back onboard the National Geographic Venture, we’ll cruise south along Big Sur for a spectacular sunset. (B,L,D)

  • DAY 4: Avila Beach

This morning begins with an early Zodiac foray to give those interested in a long, challenging hike to Point San Luis Lighthouse a head start. Or choose the less demanding option—a leisurely morning, some kayaking, or a trolley to the Lighthouse. Next, we’ll head out to the Pismo Beach Butterfly Grove. December is an ideal time to visit as some 10,000+ butterflies are in residence. Once onboard, our naturalists will be on the bow as we search for migrating whales and enjoy another magical sunset among the Channel Islands. (B,L,D)

  • DAY 5: Catalina Island

Join a member of the Catalina Conservancy for a hike through the spectacular Catalina backcountry or explore the shoreline via paddle board, kayak, or Zodiac. In the afternoon, enjoy some leisure time in Avalon Harbor and be our guest at a private cocktail reception and behind-the-scenes tour of the famous Catalina Casino, an architectural gem built by William Wrigley in 1929, to cap off our expedition. (B,L,D)

  • DAY 6: Long Beach, CA

Enjoy a final stretching session on deck and breakfast before disembarking. (B)
