She reported on the war in Cambodia for the Washington Post, was Senior Foreign Editor of National Public Radio, and covered national security, foreign policy, and international economics for the New York Times. Her books include Overbooked, an expose on the trillion-dollar global tourism industry, and When the War Was Over: Cambodia and the Khmer Rouge Revolution, which is based on firsthand reporting from the war and the revolution, as well as her interviews with Pol Pot and other senior leaders.
