This morning National Geographic Quest anchored right in front of Bona Island, which was just recently declared a wildlife refuge by the Panamanian government thanks to the initiative of many Lindblad naturalists and staff members, later joined by many Panamanian conservationists who were concerned with active fuel reservoir projects for the many ships transiting the Panama Canal.

Bona is considered a sanctuary for many seabirds that nest here, and it is a truly amazing birding experience to go around the island by Zodiac.

Later in the evening we started our transit through one of the wonders of the modern world, where our guests had the chance to observe Miraflores and Pedro Miguel locks from our decks as National Geographic Quest heads northbound to the Caribbean Sea.
