Going deep into the Pacaya River meant we had to travel for several hours in the skiffs. However, the day still seemed to go by too fast, with amazing sightings happening one after the other! We saw pink dolphins, giant ‘paiche’ fish, turtles, river otters, hundreds of birds, giant lizards feeding on turtle eggs, and even a howler monkey swimming across the river!

We had no time to rest until we made it to our destination. A structure once known as the jungle restaurant was at one time a house built by ex-President Fujimori, now seeing use as a ranger station. Once back onboard, a “mandatory” siesta (nap) was welcomed by all. We reconvened for recap and dinner, and afterwards an exploratory night walk that was very enjoyable.
