Experience nature’s primal beauty and power

Nature is at its most dramatic in Iceland, engaging all the senses with stunning fjords, still-hot volcanoes, and thundering waterfalls. Expect the unexpected: a fjord known locally for sea monsters, a waterfall surrounded by tomato red soil, and the world’s largest waterfall—which is underwater.

  • Explore Iceland's pristine fjords, fascinating tundra, and dramatic waterfalls, accompanied by a dedicated team of naturalists

  • Encounter evidence of volcanic activity as we soak in geothermal hot springs, hike over cooled lava fields, and view Iceland's newest isle, Surtsey

  • Discover the rich biodiversity of the remote Westfjords and watch for humpback and minke whales in the surrounding waters

  • Actively explore by taking Zodiacs into fjords and serene bays

  • Visit a farm that produces eiderdown, and hike to the dramatic Dynjandi Waterfall in Iceland’s remote Westfjords peninsula

  • Watch for passing migratory birds, such as skuas, eiders, gulls, and terns as they head south from their summer breeding grounds

Living Volcano

Lindblad Director of Expedition Photography and geologist, Ralph Lee Hopkins, spent two weeks obsessively devoted to capturing the mood swings of the world’s newest and most active volcano. From vantage points all around the Geldingadalur site and a helicopter circling above it, he documented and reported on this historic natural phenomenon for our social media channels. See his stunning photos, videos and illuminating posts here.

Day By Day

Iceland’s sheer visual splendor will be revealed in new ways every day. The 18 magnificent miles of the Arnafjörður fjord are filled with scenic inlets and the Dynjandi Waterfall, which surges from a craggy verdant mountainside. We conclude our adventure exploring the serenely beautiful Westfjords and the volcanic Westman Islands where a walk to Heimaey’s crater elicits comparisons to Pompeii.
