Travel with André Préfontaine, Chief Development Officer of The Royal Canadian Geographical Society and Canadian Geographic Enterprises. A seasoned world traveler with multiple trips to the Arctic and Antarctica, André was Executive Director of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and President and Publisher of Canadian Geographic Enterprises up until 2013, at which time he relinquished his full-time duties to assist in managing some of the Society’s key strategic relationships as Chief Development Officer. It was in that capacity that André acted as the Society’s Deputy Head of Expedition for the 2014 Victoria Strait Expedition that led to the historic discovery, by Parks Canada archeologists, of the wreck of HMS Erebus, one of the two long-lost ships of the ill-fated Franklin expedition of 1845. On this voyage, André will talk about the HMS Erebus discovery expedition with guests on board.
Prior to joining the Society and Canadian Geographic Enterprises in 2006, André was President of Transcontinental Media, then the fourth largest publishing group in Canada. He began his journalistic career in 1972 with Sherbrooke’s La Tribune before moving into increasingly senior management positions at The Canadian Press, Hollinger Inc., the Southam Newspaper Group, Quebecor Inc. and Transcontinental Media.
André is a graduate of l’Université de Sherbrooke and of executive programs at the University of Western Ontario and Harvard University.
