Film maker Anthony Powell had to design and build a lot of his own camera equipment to withstand the harsh conditions of the deep Antarctic winters. Together with his wife Christine, who he married in Antarctica, he has spent over 100 months there, including 10 winters in months of unending darkness.
His critically praised feature film Antarctica: A Year On Ice won more than 20 international awards. He has contributed material to numerous exhibitions, films and TV shows all over the world including the US Natural History Museum, National Geographic, Discovery, and also featured in the Emmy award winning BBC series Frozen Planet.
He is currently at Scott Base for a year of full-time filming, working on multi-media educational outreach material, as well as gathering footage for upcoming TV projects.
