Arturo Izurieta

Dr. Izurieta has extensive experience in research, management of protected areas and management of local affairs. He has worked for more than 30 years in strategic projects and facilitating relationships between government authorities, native communities and scientific communities in Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Australia, Malaysia and Central America.

As Executive Director of the CDRS, he has focused on organizational planning and strengthening collaboration. Sustainability in the Galapagos Islands.  Dr. Izurieta has a post-doctorate at Charles Darwin University, Australia with studies to assess the participatory management of protected areas in the Northern Territory, Australia, and a PhD in Rural and Natural Systems Management at The University of Queensland, Australia

He has been Executive Director of the Charles Darwin Foundation for the Galapagos Islands since June 2015 and was Director of the National Park and the Galapagos Marine Reserve, Ecuador on two occasions: from 1991 to 1995 and from 2013 to 2015.

He has a designation as Adjunct Honorary Researcher since 2011 to the Research Institute for the Environment, Livelihoods and Livelihoods (RIEL), at Charles Darwin University, Australia.
