Protecting native & endemic wildlife by promoting responsible pet ownership
The LEX-NG Fund supports Darwin Animal Doctors (DAD), a professional veterinary clinic in the Galápagos that seeks to provide care for all animals: both wild and domestic. One of the main services DAD provides is spaying and neutering pets—free of charge. DAD also conducts outreach events where they offer free parasite treatments, biodegradable dog waste bags, and leashes in order to educate the public about responsible pet ownership. These efforts protect the unique native and endemic wildlife of the islands by reducing interactions between domestic and wild animals, which can cause the spread of invasive diseases.
DAD also partners with the Galápagos National Park Directorate in providing emergency veterinary services to wildlife that has been made sick or injured as a result of human interference. Highlights of their recent successes can be found here.
The Lindblad ExpeditionsNational Geographic (LEX-NG) Fund aims to protect the last wild places in the ocean while facilitating conservation, research, education, and community development programs in the places we explore.
