Glaciers! Went into the Crossfjord and had a wonderful experience with the glacier front sometimes covered with fog. Several glaciers calve into this fjord and the sea surface is usually covered with really deep blue drifting ice. This is also a major breeding area for the little auk, Called the "Dovekie."

We also did a great stop under the bird cliffs to explore the Arctic flora. The afternoon was spent a Ny-lesund, the northern most village in the world. This used to be a coal mining site but the mining operation was closed in 1963. Today Ny-lesund is a major research center for Arctic studies. On our walk we looked at reindeer, nesting Arctic terns and also visited the museum. It was a dramatic day beginning with fog and ending with beautiful blue skies.
