Española Island
The Galapagos Islands are still one of the most pristine areas remaining on the planet. The diversity of animals and the high endemism found here make this place a very special one. The Galapagos National Park is the Ecuadorian institution that is in charge of the protection of this magical archipelago. Not only the land area is protected by law, but the waters that surround the archipelago are also protected. In the year 1986 the Ecuadorian government created a marine reserve in order to look after the marine ecosystems. The Galapagos Marine Reserve is the second largest marine reserve in the whole world after the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. Onboard the Polaris we put a lot of emphasis on the importance of the fascinating Galapagos underworld and its conservation. It is not possible to separate the land ecosystems and their inhabitants from the marine, because they are dependant on each other.
A well-equipped glass bottom boat, snorkeling gear, a splash camera and an underwater video camera help us to fully enjoy all the opportunities to understand the marine ecosystems. From the picture of today you can appreciate one of the many colorful and spectacular species of fish that we spotted during our snorkeling outing. The yellow-tailed surgeonfish travels in big schools and always attracts the attention of our visitors.
