After a peaceful night’s rest and dreams of the after-dinner gray whales from the previous day, we awoke to a beautiful breakfast followed by an impromptu call to the ship's outer decks. National Geographic Orion’s team had spotted some Walrus bobbing in the waves. The animals were unafraid and seemed just to slowly cross our bow as guest’s cameras shuttered and clicked. Soon after, we anchored off the town of Meynypilgino, and Zodiacs deployed to get us ashore. Many opted for riding into town to visit the locals and observe life in the village of Chukchi. Others elected to cruise the shores in search of wildlife. Neither were disappointed. Weighing anchor after lunch we spent the morning at sea watching gray whales pass and the Chukotka Peninsula slip by as we headed northeast towards our final stop in Russia, Provideniya.
