Esther Horvath

Documentary photographer Esther Horvath specializes in the polar regions. Telling scientific polar stories through the universal language of photography, she aims to document the work of scientists who are delivering crucial information, highlighting the changes in the Arctic Ocean. Her coverage of Station Nord, the northernmost base of Greenland, was featured in National Geographic.

Other work published by National Geographic ranges from stories about a greenhouse laboratory at Neumayer Station in Antarctica to an inside look at how scientists trained and prepared for the largest Arctic Ocean science expedition in history, MOSAiC (Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate). Esther will continue coverage of this story in late 2019 and early 2020, spending months on board the Polarstern icebreaker to document the work and life on the Arctic sea ice. Horvath is a Fellow at the International League of Conservation Photographers, as well as The Explorers Club, and the science photographer for Germany’s Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research.
