Jonatha Giddens

National Geographic Explorer and Fellow, Dr. Jonatha Giddens is an Ocean Ecologist who blends science and art to illuminate our interconnectedness with the ocean. Jonatha earned her PhD in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology from the University of Hawaii and is the Chief Scientist for the National Geographic Society Exploration Technology Lab Deep-Sea Research Project. With nearly two decades of experience conducting marine ecosystem research throughout the Pacific Region, Jonatha’s work with the NGS ExTech Lab now extends across the global ocean, using remote cameras to visually document and characterize deep-sea biodiversity. Through collaborations with Explorers around the world, her mission is to help discover and share the knowledge and wonder of the ocean’s amazing diversity of life, and to inspire conservation action.
