Patrick Gilmore

Patrick was immersed in the natural world from an early age. Growing up on a farm in rural South Carolina, he was surrounded by vast landscapes and diverse wildlife, and it was here that he developed his passion for nature. Constantly exploring through the forests behind his home, Patrick was always seeking adventure in the outdoors. After high school he went to The Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia, where he received his B.F.A. in film and television.

While in school, he shot a wide array of short films, including a documentary on the American Alligator, which gave him his first up close contact with wildlife behind the camera.  Upon completion of the film, Patrick realized that he could combine his two passions of nature and filmmaking to reveal to the world the hidden wonders of the animal kingdom.

Shortly after graduation, Patrick drove cross-country to relocate to Portland, Oregon.  In the abundant wilderness of the Northwest, he feels at home, and is still seeking out new adventures with camera in hand.  After coming aboard Lindblad Expeditions–National Geographic as a video chronicler, he has been able to hone his skills as a wildlife filmmaker, and better understand the intricacies of the species he's filming.  The ever-surprising habits of nature still astound Patrick, and each journey still feels magical and unique.

As a video chronicler, Patrick has his cameras at-the-ready 24 hours a day and seven days a week, with just one goal: to capture the essence of each expedition.  Voyage DVDs are available at the end of each expedition—they often prove to be remarkable ways of remembering and recapturing the magic of these remarkable journeys.
