Ragna Arnadottir

Ragna Árnadóttir is the Secretary General of Althingi, the Icelandic Parliament, the first woman to hold that position in its 426-year history.

Her previous positions include deputy CEO of Landsvirkjun, the National Power Company of Iceland which produces 75% of all electricity in Iceland. She served as the Minister of Justice and Ecclesiastical Affairs/ Minister of Justice and human rights from 2009-2010. She was the Director of legal affairs in the Ministry of Justice and Ecclesiastical Affair (2002-2008) and head of division in the legal office in the Ministry of Health and Social Security (2001-2002). Ragna held the position senior adviser for the Nordic Council´s Secretariat, Stockholm/Copenhagen (1995-1999) and worked as a legal expert for the Parliament of Iceland (1991-1995).

She holds a Master of European Affairs LL.M from the University of Lund in Sweden (2002) and completed her Cand.Jur law degree from the University of Iceland (1991).

As a former minister of justice and current Secretary General of Althingi, Ragna is trusted to chair and facilitate sensitive high-level political and economic issues. A good storyteller with a unique background, Ragna’s personal perspective on Iceland’s turbulent years will bring great insight into how Iceland is building bridges.
