Thora Arnorsdottir

Thora Arnorsdottir is a renowned national media personality and documentary film producer. Currently, Arnorsdottir is the managing editor of Kveikur, Iceland’s only investigative journalism TV- program, at the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service. Arnorsdottir is also founder and owner of Hugveitan, a documentary production company that has created films including Outlaws: The Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Society in India, At the Bottom of the Fiord: The Last Farmers in Ísafjardardjup and a 4 episode TV series on Iceland’s economical crash: Hrunið. She has won the “TV-Personality of the Year”- award in Iceland multiple times.

Arnorsdottir was a candidate in the presidential elections in 2012, challenging the incumbent of 16 years. She didn’t win but was a strong runner up with a third of the votes. Her candidacy sparked a fierce gender debate as she was pregnant with her third child and gave birth to her daughter during the campaign.

Thora Arnorsdottir was elected as a Yale World Fellow in 2014, she has been a lecturer at the University of Iceland on International Relations and holds degrees in Philosophy and International Economics and Development from the University of Iceland, University of Genova, Italy and Johns Hopkins SAIS in Washington, DC.
