We had a beautiful day at sea, with following seas, clear skies and deep blue waters around the ship.  As we traveled west, the low-lying cays of the Cannereos Archipelago were barely visible to the north. Our destination is the large, remote island Isla de la Juventude (Isle of Youth).

Our sea day gave us a perfect opportunity to sort through photos taken earlier in the voyage.  Staff gave presentations on varied topics: Cuba’s Seas and Shores, Photography 101, and another interesting talk about shipwrecks and modern archaeology in flooded caves. It was also just a perfect day to take a post-lunch siesta, or relax in a shady place on deck.

After the ship made the turn off Cape Frances, the mild seas quieted more.  The water changed shifted from blue to green in Siguanea Bay’s shallow waters.  A local pilot came aboard to guide the ship to our anchorage.

Just prior to sunset, our expedition leader Tom offered us a taste of a fine, aged Cuban rum.  There were warm, gentle winds flowing through open windows on Sun Deck, where we enjoyed our Fishermen’s Buffet dinner.
