As we make our way back across the Drake Passage, it is time for us to reflect on the sights, the sounds, and the smells of our wonderful expedition to the Antarctic Peninsula. Around us soared black-browed albatrosses, giant petrels, and sooty shearwaters. After breakfast, we sighted the fabled Cape Horn and approached close enough that we could see the famous monument to lost sailors at this meeting place of ocean currents and storms. Heading north again, we entered the calmer waters of the Beagle Channel and were greeted by forests of southern beech trees on Tierra Del Fuego Island.
Through the day we were treated to presentations by our National Geographic photographer, Michaela Skovranova, our Global Perspectives Guest Speaker, Kathy Sullivan, and our expedition leader, Jimmy White. At the Captain’s farewell cocktail party, we enjoyed reminiscing over the guest slideshow and watched some beautiful video footage from our undersea team and a humorous recap of our trip from Captain Yuriy.
