Floreana Island has a rich human history in the archipelago. Pirates, explorers, whalers and first settlers made it to this island at different times. The main reason was to collect water and a food source in giant tortoises.

A wooden barrel was placed in Post Office Bay and this barrel played a very important role with all of these visitors at different times. This barrel still played a role in modern times with our Galapagos explorers. We dropped postcards for someone to collect and hand deliver. This afternoon we really kept alive this ancient tradition.
