Today we made landfall at Stanley, the capital of the Falkland Islands. One of the singular sites in this charming town is the Anglican Christ Church Cathedral. Pictured here, a Zodiac load of folks can easily fit within the jaw bones of two blue whales. No longer the capital of the Antarctic whaling fleet, today Stanley residents make their living from fishing, particularly from squid, as well as from eco-tourism. Slowly the wheel turns and perhaps the bright future of the Falkland Islanders will be as guardiansto those creatures whose hides and oils were resources for their forefather's contemporaries: whales, seals, and penguins.
