Urvina Bay & Punta Moreno
Today was another wonderful day in paradise and we started our activities early in the morning. The first visit of the day was at Urvina Bay at eight thirty. As soon as we landed on this spectacular black sand beach we got surprised by a flightless cormorant that was fishing. We put our walking shoes on, and got our gear ready for a wonderful hike. We started walking along the coastline looking at the attractions that Urvina Bay had for us. It was nice to take our time to see all we could, as we saw three male sea turtles trying to mate with one female; that was awesome!
As we continued walking, we started recognizing the callings of the land birds we heard that beautiful morning. We could tell the difference of the yellow warbler’s song when it was hiding in the mangroves and the mockingbirds standing on the spectacular scutia that is all over the area; but probably the most exciting issue was to tell the difference in the singing of the small ground finch.
As we got in the inner part of the trail, we started seeing these beautiful land iguanas that were resting in the middle of the trail. We saw two big males and four colorful females in total. These amazing creatures were just like the cherry on top of the ice cream for a perfect morning in the Galápagos Islands.
Finally, the guests ended on the beach taking a swim just to relax and refresh. A few went snorkeling and saw an amazing lobster resting on the bottom of the sea. After the activity was over we came back on board the National Geographic Islander to have a delicious lunch.
The afternoon activities were as good as they were in the morning. I had the group that decided to go for the panga ride. During this wonderful activity we got to see around fifteen flightless cormorants standing on the rocks drying their feathers; they had a phoenix-like shape, that was just amazing!
We ended inside tidal entrances looking at all the wildlife that was found inside, such as snapers, mullets and lava herons. All I will say is that this was the day we dream of having with all these tame creatures that are found only in the Galápagos Islands.
