Bahía Magdalena
After spending the night anchored in the calm waters of Bahia Magdalena, we had our first opportunity to hop into our Zodiacs and take a closer look at the magnificent grey whales. As we navigated south, where our local guides had advised us to go, we spotted a blow, and then another smaller blow close to it. A mother and calf pair was slowly moving north towards Boca de Soledad. We moved alongside the whales, keeping our distance, and suddenly their behavior changed and they headed right to our boat! Having an encounter with a friendly whale is so hard to describe that it has to be experienced to understand the emotion it creates. Well, today some of us got to know that feeling. Every round of whale watching was exciting and we felt as if the whales were having as much fun as we were, they kept following us as if they did not want the game to end.
For the afternoon, some explored the majestic dunes of the northern end of Isla Magdalena. It not only offered a beautiful environment to take an interesting and relaxing walk through the soft sand, but it also provided excellent photographic opportunities.
After a good day of whale watching, we ended with a taste of local music. Los Coyotes de Magdalena, a band from Puerto Adolfo Lopez Mateos, came on board to share some regional songs that are so representative of this wonderful part of Mexico.
