Manuel Antonio National Park & Drake’s Bay

Welcome to Costa Rica! This small country in Central America is the beginning for a great week immerse in the rainforest dynamic of the new world tropics. The geographical position, the rugged topography with changing altitudes, wet and dry climates and a combination of volcanic soils and tectonic formations contribute to a wide variety of species in this region.

Our first destination is the small national park of Manuel Antonio. Upon arrival to the landing beach a calm ocean breeze, green lush vegetation and light colored sand amazed our guests.

We all were looking forward to spend time connecting our emotions with nature. Observing the behavior of two and three toed sloths, white-throated capuchin monkeys, basilisks lizards even the rare opportunity to see an albino agouti meandering on the forest floor were unique experiences for all of us.

Exploring deeper in the trails inside the park we were able to find one of the main elusive birds that live in this forest: a common potoo. Despite its name, this bird is hard to find since they resemble a piece of broken branch amongst the dry vegetation.

After cooling off with a relaxing swimming session on the beach, we went back on board for our next destination: Drake’s Bay. This time it was a great chance to discover the riparian forest of the charming Rio Agujitas. With the help of a rising high tide and our fleet of Zodiacs and kayaks we added an additional memorable moment connecting with the natural world in Costa Rica.
