Today dawned clear and calm. It might seem incongruous to a region known for rainforest and a foggy maritime climate, but sunshine is not that unusual at this time of year. Regardless, it was a good sign for our plan for the day: exploring the scenery and searching for wildlife while transiting narrow channels amongst steep-sided islands. In the afternoon, we explored the inner recesses of a fjord, now known as Green Inlet, which is incised deeply into the mainland of British Columbia.

We spent much of the day on outside decks and in small boats on the water. We were also introduced to the place and people of Haida Gwaii during a presentation by Barbara Wilson, our Cultural Specialist. We will soon be visiting Haida Gwaii, and it is important that we understand and respect that the lands and waterways we explore are the ancestral territories of several First Nations groups.
