Idaho Inlet, Inian Islands, 9/1/2022, National Geographic Venture

After an incredible day spent exploring Glacier Bay National Park, National Geographic Venture made its way a little west to the mouth of Idaho Inlet, where we spent the night. By morning, the weather had changed, but it did not change our plans for the day’s activities! Even though the rain was coming down at our anchorage, activities started right after breakfast as scheduled. Hikes of different lengths were offered at two different locations. The moderate, casual, and photo hikes took place at Fox Creek, while the more strenuous and adventurous “Bush Whack” started a short way down the coast! The steady rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of our guests, and the added challenge was enjoyed by all!

During lunch, National Geographic Venture moved a short distance to our anchorage at the Inian Islands, where the afternoon activity was a Zodiac cruise to explore this wild and rich area near the Gulf of Alaska. We observed northern sea lions, sea otters, and bald eagles as we took a very exciting ride through the current of one of the daily tidal changes. A little bit more rain, an exciting ride, and seeing wildlife in its natural state…it all made for a great afternoon!

Soon we returned to the ship for our daily recap and dinner. We enjoyed a preview of the video chronicle. It was another wonderful day exploring Southeast Alaska!
