We started our day with a wet landing on a black, sandy beach where lots of turtles come to lay eggs at this time of year. Just a few steps from the beach, we encountered some giant tortoises from the neighboring Alcedo Volcano. They didn’t even notice us watching them.

We continued our walk and encountered beautiful male land iguanas just along the path. They were warming up to be able to move around and find food. At this time, they might be looking for a territory with females. Their color and behavior say it all.

The wildlife are great subjects for photo opportunities. Land birds also abound here.

The morning came to an end with some of us taking a quick, refreshing dip in the ocean.

The afternoon offered various activities like kayaking along the coast of Tagus Cove for exercise and wildlife watching. Penguins, turtles, cormorants, and sea lions are common here.

Later, we prepared for snorkeling, where we saw the always marvelous penguins, graceful sea turtles, unique cormorants, playful sea lions, and an endless number of other marine creatures.

An invigorating, fast-paced hike to a nearby ash cone offered a great chance to get a fantastic view of the lake locked into it. Very salty water with outstanding colors on the edges are clothed with picturesque Palo Santo trees, making for amazing scenery.

Others took it easy with a Zodiac ride along the coast to spot interesting wildlife. It was a great finish to another day in the incredible Galapagos Islands.
