After an extra leisurely hour of sleep from Bali to Java, we were honoured to hear from two experts aboard National Geographic Orion! Dan Westergren, National Geographic photographer, shared with us how to capture a “Sense of Place.” Photos are more than mere images. They can reveal the story of a moment in time. Louis Henry Mitchell, Creative Director of Character Development for Sesame Street Workshop, thrilled guests with his passionate and personable stories and anecdotes. We were inspired by his call to follow our dreams!

Today’s activities off the ship included snorkelling, a glass-bottom Zodiac ride, and an island trek. It was a delight to find a healthy coral cover with plating corals, branching corals, and massive corals while snorkelling. Naturalist Phil Chaon led our adventure to circumnavigate Gleyang Island, where we encountered wildlife from kingfishers to various crab and plant life. Adam Woolcott taught us how to recognize the health of coral reefs through coloration and identification within the super organism during the glass-bottom Zodiac ride.

The day ended with dinner under the stars where we were treated to a spectacular barbecue!
