Lake Eva did not disappoint today. As we walked from the shore up towards the trailhead, we were met by a bevy of beauties! In full blossom, we found shooting stars (Dodecatheon pulchellum), chocolate lilies (Fritillaria camschatcensis), and lovely little Alaskan violets (Viola langsdorffii).
We gained some elevation during our hike to the lake and stopped to drink in the views. It was low tide, so we were able to appreciate how the river meanders. In about another month or so, sockeye salmon will make their way up this waterway for the last time. This area is an important spawning ground for sockeyes. There was once a small fishing village where the Angoon Brown Bear Clan fished, hunted, and gathered food from the temperate rainforest.
We walked up, and we walked down. We enjoyed scenic overlooks, and we walked along the stream to enjoy the beauty of the forest. Then we decided a group photo was in order!
My colleague Ross set out on an ambitious bushwhack with his group at Hanus Bay. They made it back a bit muddier than when they started!
