Melfjord is crossed by the Arctic Circle, so today marks the day we officially cross into the Arctic. The chilly temperatures of the morning were a good reminder for all that things will get colder as we proceed further north.

This morning, several options were offered, from a simple Zodiac cruise to a challenging bush-whacking hike through a dense forest of birch. Some guests chose the bolder hike, and others enjoyed a simple walk along the shoreline, looking for birds and local flowers.

After dinner, we visited the small village of Træna to celebrate our crossing of the Arctic Circle. A monument to the circle is located in town, as is the small church and a local pub where guests sampled fish cakes and beer!
