National Geographic Resolution set sail this morning at 0800 enroute to the volcanic island of Mo’orea. The quick 12-mile voyage northwest from our portage in Papeete was a stunning start to our trip and beautiful intro to the Society Islands of French Polynesia.

After breakfast, guests were introduced to our world-renowned natural history staff on board for the trip. Guests were also given mandatory Zodiac and snorkel briefings, as well as sized up for masks, snorkels, and fins. A few more adventurous guests were introduced to their SCUBA diving team for the trip, including two local French Polynesian experts!

With briefings and logistical information taken care of, lunch was served on Deck 8 in Tupaia, whilst a 360-degree view of Mo’orea was enjoyed as Resolution performed a circumnavigation of the rugged, mountainous island.

Shortly following the meal, it was time for our first excursion of the trip. After arriving onshore via Zodiac ride, guests embarked on their respective bus. One vehicle set off on an “Island Knowledge” tour, and the other to the “Hiking Trail of the Ancients.” Both groups enjoyed stunning views over the bay in which our beautiful ship awaited.

We finished off the day with Welcome Cocktails hosted by our fearless leader, Captain Heidi, and her officers.
