Once again, the sun awoke us in unseasonable fashion in Southeast Alaska. We woke early in Port Althorp to head to shore and explore the coastline and coastal temperate rainforest. Port Althorp is a protected bay with calm water, and we enjoyed morning reflections on the water and even a few minks foraging in the tideline.

Next, we headed to the Inian Islands for an afternoon of Zodiac cruises through the squirrely whirlpools and tides of this archipelago. We spotted humpback whales along the shores, bald eagles flying in front of the Fairweather Mountains, and sea otters in kelp forests—it was a very Alaska afternoon.

We finished off the day by soaking in the golden hour of sunset on the bow as we began our journey to tomorrow’s destination.
