Dawn broke, and we found ourselves in a calm oasis. The weather map showed strong winds in the extended environment. With gratitude to our captain and expedition leader who worked hard to place us in a relatively wind-free zone, we took to our Zodiacs to cruise up to the Serrano Glacier. While we were up there, we enjoyed close views of the tidewater glacier face, countless waterfalls, and several showy ashy-headed geese.
In the afternoon, we explored an unnamed drainage that had yet to be explored by any other previous Lindblad expedition. Following a stream that wound through the southern beech forest, we enjoyed views of mountains, glaciers, lichens, mosses, and at least a dozen bird species.
