Sitka Photo Pre-Extension

Explore a photogenic Alaskan town with a National Geographic photographer

Available with only two Wild Alaska Escape departures: June 15 and July 25, 2021.

Sitka is a photographer’s dream. It is a charming Alaskan town and working fishing village, full of colorful vignettes of life. Surrounded by moss-draped trees and in the shadow of a snow-capped volcano, it is supremely photogenic. Add to that its historic importance as the former Russian capital of Alaska and the relics of First Nations people, and you’ll discover there are endless facets to explore.

Join a National Geographic photographer in Sitka for a four-day workshop. Spend mornings learning new techniques and tactics, and then spend the afternoon in the field “on assignment” creating images and employing new visual storytelling techniques. You’ll not only go home with fantastic images but with skills that will last a lifetime.

Day 1 - Arrive Sitka

Arrive in Sitka where you will be met by our representatives and transported to the comfortable and centrally located Sitka Westmark Hotel. Join your fellow photographers and instructors this evening for a lively welcome dinner. (D)

Day 2-3 - Sitka Photo Workshop/Exploring Sitka

Spend the next two mornings with your photo expert learning methods and tricks for creating amazing images. Your afternoons will be spent out in the field, putting those methods in practice. Visit the Alaska Raptor Center for a rare opportunity to photograph these amazing birds of prey up close. In the Sitka National Historic Park, walk along the scenic coastal trail at a photographer's pace, pausing to get shots of totem poles amidst the dramatic landscapes. (B,L,D)

Day 4 - Sitka Photo Workshop/Board National Geographic Sea Lion

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning before the morning workshop. In the afternoon enjoy time on your own to explore town before transferring to the National Geographic Sea Lion to begin your expedition of Southeast Alaska. (B)
