Havens for whales, penguins, and wildness

Travel aboard the new National Geographic Endurance to the rarely visited shores and isles of the South Atlantic—places of stunning beauty that harbor a mesmerizing array of marine creatures. Enjoy a unique opportunity to experience Argentina’s rugged—and lesser-explored—eastern coast, seeking out secluded ports, wildlife-rich estuaries, and the vibrant waters of UNESCO World Heritage-listed Península Valdés, where our arrival coincides with the height of Southern right whale breeding season. Hike the rocky shores and atmospheric moors of the Falkland Islands among fur seals and the world's largest colony of black-browed albatross. Then get immersed in a sea of black and white amid tens of thousands of king penguins on a remote beach in South Georgia.

  • Seek out one of the world’s largest and most spectacular marine mammals—the southern right whale—in its annual breeding grounds off Argentina’s eastern coast

  • Experience traditional gaucho culture and cuisine at splendid estancias in Uruguay and Argentina

  • Capture the windswept beauty of the Falkland Islands—and the albatrosses, penguins, and sea lions that inhabit this remote archipelago—with guidance from a National Geographic photographer

  • Trace the spellbinding story of Ernest Shackleton’s fateful expedition on South Georgia, and walk a beach thronged with tens of thousands of stately king penguins

Antarctica, New and Noteworthy

Day By Day

Explore three distinct and spectacular regions that are seldom united in one journey. In Argentina and Uruguay immerse yourself in the culture, dining, and splendid architecture of the great cities of Buenos Aires and Montevideo, plus see whales along the Argentinian coast. On the sub-antarctic island of South Georgia, land on a beach with tens of thousands of king penguins—a wildlife spectacle on par with the great migrations of the Serengeti. And in the Falklands, explore one the largest colonies of albatross in the world, plus meet the welcoming people of this rugged island. Flexibility is a hallmark of our expeditions, and often the shipboard day-by-day itinerary will change, so we may take full advantage of rare wildlife sightings, watching whales feed off the bow, or perfect conditions for a late-day Zodiac excursion. Our captain, expedition leader, and expedition team will make the most of conditions and wildlife activity.
